Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has indicated that significant influence from his family, supporters, and others prompted him to contemplate a 2027 senatorial campaign.
Sule expressed this on Monday while addressing inquiries in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a program on Channels Television.
He was clarifying his choice to contest the National Assembly election after previously declaring his intention to withdraw from public office.
“I made this choice on the day of our Supreme Court ruling after I was successful in my election. I was sincere at that moment; I had no plans to merely announce that I’m going to pursue election to the Senate or House of Representatives or any other role.
“However, it appears that when one makes such a choice, based on my experiences from the private sector, it reaches a stage where the pressure begins to come from your constituents.
“As I prepare to leave office now, I have received various statements from supporters asking what they ought to expect when I depart. We have put in considerable effort to work alongside you to become the governor for eight years.
“My family, traditional leaders, supporters, individuals I regard as my superiors, and many others have exerted pressure on me to run for Senate.
“Thus, I made the clear statement that it is not my aim to come and pursue any other position, as I previously conveyed, but if this is what the community desires, I can reassess that decision,” the governor remarked.
