
A Benue tribunal has found nine out of 10 individuals associated with the kidnapping of worshippers at St John Catholic Church in the Ojeji community, Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, in a case that garnered extensive attention concerning safety in the region.
The individuals were taken hostage during a nocturnal vigil, prompting rapid action by collaborative security personnel.
Acting on reliable intelligence, officials initiated synchronized operations that resulted in the successful rescue of all nine captives without any injuries.
The Police Intelligence Response Unit spearheaded the initial actions, detaining four individuals and seizing AK-47 firearms and ammunition.
Further inquiries led to more arrests, elevating the total number of individuals apprehended to 10.
Included among those detained were Abubakar Jibril and Ashiru Ibrahim. Their capture provided essential leads that assisted in dismantling the criminal organization.
After arraignment, nine individuals were found guilty and sentenced to varying durations in prison, while one continues to await trial.
In response, the Executive Chairman of Ado LGA, Sunny Oche, commended the endeavors of security agencies, including the police, DSS, and local vigilantes.
He also praised Governor Hyacinth Alia, the Inspector General of Police, and Deputy Governor Sam Odeh for their contributions in delivering justice.
Oche stated that the outcome “demonstrates a strong dedication to protecting lives and reinstating public trust.”
