The Nigerian authorities are intending to abolish the Common Entrance Examination for junior secondary school pupils.
Instead, they will implement a Learner Identification Number.
This number will assist in monitoring students throughout their academic journey, beginning from primary school to secondary school.
This was revealed by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, while addressing reporters in Lagos.
Alausa clarified that the Common Entrance Exam will be phased out and substituted with a more effective system known as Continuous Assessment, or CA.
He stated, “The CA will reflect how well a student has performed from primary one.
“Even if a student changes schools, they can carry their CA with them to the new institution.”
Alausa also mentioned that this novel system will assist in resolving issues associated with the transition from primary to secondary school, particularly since many students do not progress to the next level.
