Former Manchester United icon, Rio Ferdinand has delivered a firm message to the England manager following the outstanding performance of Danny Welbeck.

Welbeck netted two goals against Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday, and Ferdinand claims that the seasoned forward deserves a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s England roster for the imminent 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Welbeck scored twice for Brighton & Hove Albion, guiding them to a 2-1 triumph over Liverpool on Saturday.

The 35-year-old has had a notable season, having found the back of the net 12 times in 30 Premier League appearances.

Rio Ferdinand, who played alongside Welbeck in 71 encounters at Manchester United, advocated for the forward’s inclusion in the World Cup lineup.

He shared his views on X, stating, “Welbeck must make the World Cup….”

At 35 years, Danny Welbeck continues to display exceptional performance levels. He has particularly regained his scoring prowess in the Premier League over the last two seasons.

Last season, he achieved 10 league goals in 30 games, and he has already scored 12 times in 30 matches this term. The forward has previously donned the jerseys of Manchester United, Arsenal, and Watford.

During his tenure at Manchester United, Welbeck tallied 29 goals in 142 matches and netted 32 goals in 126 games for Arsenal. To this day, he has appeared in 194 matches for Brighton, scoring 50 times.
