The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Saturday asserted that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is on the verge of becoming the leader of the “one-man” Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors Forum.
Seye Oladejo, the spokesperson for the state division of APC, indicated it is now evident that the PDP is in its “final throes of significance.”
Oladejo remarked that the current trend of defections by PDP governors to the APC has obliterated the opposition’s remaining credibility and structure.
In a statement he endorsed, Oladejo stated, “Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State now finds himself on the verge of acting as the de facto Chairman of a “one-man PDP Governors Forum”—an occurrence that perfectly illustrates the extent of the party’s downfall. What was once a shared leadership platform has been diminished to a solitary bastion of waning influence.
“Let it be clearly stated, this is not mere coincidence; it is repudiation. The ongoing migration of governors and pivotal figures is a clear expression of no confidence in the PDP’s management, its lack of ideological coherence, and its persistent failure to tackle internal disputes. Those most familiar with the party are distancing themselves from it.
“A political entity that cannot maintain its internal order, that bleeds its own elected representatives, and that provides no coherent strategy cannot—and should not—be entrusted with the governance of a complex nation like Nigeria. The PDP’s present condition is not merely a failure; it is a cautionary narrative.
“Even more concerning is the wider implication for Nigeria’s democracy. What we are observing is the disintegration of responsible opposition politics, undermined by ego conflicts, indiscipline, and a preoccupation with power devoid of readiness. Nigerians deserve an opposition that is credible, organized, and prepared—not one that is disintegrating in real time.
“Opposition parties must, as a matter of urgency, learn from the APC’s proven strategies during its time in opposition—years characterized by sacrifice, resilience, discipline, and strategic patience.
“The APC did not merely fall into power; it earned trust, established legitimacy, and presented Nigerians with a distinct and compelling alternative. That path remains open—but it demands diligent effort, not shortcuts.
“Instead, today’s opposition appears ensnared in a cycle of opportunism, where individual ambition eclipses collective goals, and where the quest for power has transformed into an end in itself rather than a means to serve.”
The APC in Lagos State assured that it remains committed, disciplined, and future-oriented.
“While others disband and self-sabotage, we continue to build on progressive governance, deliver tangible results, and fortify democratic institutions in the interest of all Nigerians.”
