Eduardo Saverin: Biography, career, net worth

Eduardo Luiz Saverin is a Brazilian-American businessman and angel financier.

He is among the co-founders of Facebook.

Eduardo Luiz Saverin was born in the metropolis of São Paulo to an affluent Jewish Brazilian lineage, and his family subsequently relocated to Rio de Janeiro.

In 1993, the family emigrated to the U.S., establishing themselves in Miami

Saverin enrolled at Gulliver Preparatory School in Miami. He then pursued studies at Harvard University, where he was a resident of Eliot House, a member of the Phoenix S.K. Club, and the president of the Harvard Investment Association.

In 2006, he completed his degree magna cum laude from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts in economics.

During his third year at Harvard, Saverin encountered fellow undergraduate, second-year student Mark Zuckerberg.

Observing the absence of a specialized social networking platform for Harvard attendees, the two collaborated to create The Facebook in 2004.

They mutually decided to contribute $1,000 to the site. Later, Zuckerberg and Saverin each consented to invest an additional $18,000 into the venture, thus establishing them as co-founders of Facebook.

However, on May 15, 2012, Mark Zuckerberg removed Saverin from Facebook and reduced his share. This incident led Saverin to file a lawsuit against Zuckerberg, but the matter was resolved outside of court, and the company reaffirmed Saverin’s status as co-founder of Facebook.

Saverin co-established Aporta, an online platform for philanthropy.

In 2015, Saverin founded his venture capital firm, B Capital, investing in Southeast Asia and India. In 2016, Saverin’s fund finalized initial agreements exceeding $140 million in Asia, including $30 million in the regional logistics startup Ninja Van.

Eduardo Saverin’s wealth is estimated at $16.2 billion.
