Peter Kay biography: All you need to know, net worth, rumours of wife’s death

Peter Kay is one stand-up artist, who has established a reputation for himself in the UK.

His abilities have been lauded by admirers, fellow performers, and even Frog and Bucket comedy club’s manager, David Perkins.

Although he is one of the most prominent comedians in Europe, Peter Kay appears to prefer a life away from the spotlight.

A self-identified home-loving individual and family man, he would rather be at home with his spouse and children than touring for live performances.

The award-winning humorist was born in Farnworth, Lancashire, in 1973 to father Michael, an engineer, and mother, Deirdre O’Neill.

Thanks to his mother’s Irish heritage, he was raised as a Christian in the Roman Catholic faith. His parents eventually separated.

In 1989, he departed from St Joseph’s school with one GCSE in art. He later misrepresented his educational background and enrolled at the University of Leeds to pursue a BA in Drama, Theatre Studies, and English Literature.

After discovering that the program was too challenging for him, Kay dropped out and moved on to the Adelphi Campus School of Media, Music, and Performance, where he ultimately earned a Higher National Diploma in Media Performance.

Before rising to fame as a leading stand-up comic, Peter held various part-time positions, including a job at a cinema, Netto supermarket, gas station, a toilet paper factory, and a bingo hall.

Despite all this, Peter has become one of the most beloved comedians in the United Kingdom. He has received numerous accolades, such as the Banff Rockie Award, British Screenwriters’ Award, Golden Rose, and the BAFTA TV Award, among others. Additionally, he is a director, producer, and author.

In 2012, he achieved a new Guinness World Record for ‘Most tickets sold for a stand-up comedy tour.’ With such ticket sales, it is no surprise that his net worth is assessed at around £43 million ($56 million).

Peter Kay and his wife Susan Gargan first crossed paths one evening in 1998 while enjoying a night out at a nightclub and have remained together ever since. At that time, she was employed as a cashier at a Boots pharmacy while he was working at a local cinema.

While the duo has been together for 22 years, they have been wed for 19 years. The lovebirds exchanged vows in 2001 after dating for three years.

In 2018, following the star’s cancellation of his show due to unexpected family matters, many speculated that it was because Peter Kay’s wife had passed away. However, these claims are unfounded.

Neither the comedian nor his family has publicly confirmed any news regarding Susan’s death. In fact, the comedian himself was a target of a death rumor back in 2018.
