Kashim Shettima Early Years
In 1993, he entered the financial sector. He was hired by the now-defunct Commercial Bank of Africa Limited as head of the accounts department at the bank’s office in Ikeja, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria. Kashim Shettima Political Journey
From 2007 to 2011, he was a Commissioner in five Ministries. During the January 2011 ANPP primaries, Engineer Modu Fannami Gubio was nominated as the candidate for the governorship. Unfortunately, Gubio was later assassinated, leading to Shettima being selected in a subsequent primary in February 2011. In the elections held on April 26, 2011, Shettima secured 531,147 votes, compared to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Muhammed Goni, who received 450,140.
He served as Commissioner of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs (2008), Education (2009), Agriculture and Natural Resources, and lastly Health, from where he vied for the Governorship in 2011, winning under the banner of the now-defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP and was inaugurated on May 29, 2011.
In 2015, he won re-election under the All Progressives Congress, APC, and was clearly chosen as Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, a collective organization of Governors in 19 northern Nigerian States. He has been implementing significant changes within the forum, focusing on fostering unity in the north and revitalizing struggling industries in northern States.
