Grace Oyelude’s biography
Her complete name is Grace Atinuke Oyelude, born on the 16th of November 1931 to James Adeleye Olude and Marthan Dantu of Isanlu in Kogi State.
Grace Oyelude was brought up in the northern region of the nation, but there are assertions that her state of origin stems from Oluponna, a locality in Osun state, located in the west of Nigeria.
The former beauty queen is a Nigerian by birth and commemorated her 90th birthday in November 2021.
Education
Grace Oyelude completed her primary and secondary schooling from 1940 to 1952 in Kano. Following that, she attended the nursing school in Ashford Kent, England, becoming a registered nurse in 1961.
In 1962, she qualified as a registered midwife SCM after enrolling in the midwifery program at St. Thomas Hospital, London.
Grace Oyelude also attended the Royal College of Nursing, England, in 1971, where she earned a Diploma in Nursing and Hospital Administration. She also holds a diploma from the
Ghana Institute of Management and Human Resources Administration.
Career
Grace Oyelude practiced Nursing in the UK from 1962 to 1963, and one of the well-known hospitals she was employed at was Paddington General Hospital.
She would subsequently return to Nigeria, where she accepted a position in Kaduna General Hospital from 1964 to 1965. Grace Oyelude served as the lead nursing officer at the former Kaduna Nursing home, currently recognized as Barau Dike specialist hospital, located in Kaduna.
During the 1970s when Nigeria was embroiled in civil conflict, Grace Oyelude was dispatched to Makurdi General Hospital, where she led a medical team from the then northern area.
Grace Oyelude was appointed senior matron and head of nursing services at Ahmadu Bello University’s teaching hospital during the 1970s and chose to retire from the role in 1985.
