At the age of 12, Kasumba discovered her passion for entertainment after watching the musical Starlight Express. She made her cinematic debut as Silke in the Dutch sensation Ik ook van jou while still pursuing her education. Following her graduation, Kasumba performed in numerous musicals, including Chicago, The Lion King, Cats, West Side Story, Evita, and Beauty and the Beast. She made her way to New York for an audition and was selected for the German debut of Elton John’s acclaimed musical Aida. Additionally, she portrayed Lisa in the German premiere cast of Mamma Mia.

Kicking off her journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kasumba appeared in Captain America: Civil War in 2016. Although her role was minor, she garnered considerable praise for her portrayal as a security officer in Black Panther. She reprised her character, Ayo, a member of the all-female Dora Milaje combat team, in the 2018 Black Panther solo film, Avengers: Infinity War, the series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and the sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

In 2017, she portrayed Senator Acantha in Wonder Woman and took on the role of the Wicked Witch of the East in the NBC series Emerald City. Kasumba lent her voice to Shenzi in the 2019 animated remake of The Lion King.
