Kayode Egbetokun commenced his career in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP (Course 16) on March 3, 1990.
He has worked in several commands, formations, and divisions within the police force. He initially served as the Chief Security Officer to the Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2005. Following this, he held the role of Commander RRS at Lagos State Command from 2005 to 2007. He also worked as O/C Anti-Fraud in the FCT Command in Abuja and as CSP Admin in the Lagos State Command. Over the years, he has undertaken the roles of Area Commander in Osogbo, Osun State, and Gusau, Zamfara State.
Furthermore, Egbetokun took on leadership roles such as Commandant of the Police Training School (PTS) in Ikeja, Lagos State, and Deputy Commandant of the Police College also in Ikeja, Lagos State. He has served as the Commissioner of Police for multiple departments and commands, including the Servicom Force Headquarters in Abuja, Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) in FHQ, Kwara State Command, and Admin Medical Falomo in Lagos State. Additionally, he has held the position of AIG Zone 7 Headquarters in Abuja and served as the DIG of the Force Criminal Investigations Department in FHQ, Abuja.
Currently, he occupies the role of Acting Inspector General of Police. He succeeded Usman Baba, who was designated as the Inspector General of Police by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021.
