Early Life
David Keith McCallum was delivered in Maryhill, Glasgow on September 19, 1933. He was the second son of his mother, Dorothy Dorman, a cellist and orchestral violinist. At the age of three, his family moved to London as his father was required to perform for the concertmaster of the Philharmonic Orchestra, London. After World War II, they returned to Scotland, where he resided with his mother in Gartocharn.
He completed his education at the University College School and also received a scholarship. In 1946, David commenced his work with the BBC radio repertory company and also engaged in amateur theater. At the age of 17, he participated in an outdoor production with the play and pageant union.

Following a photo session with James Dean, he gained significant recognition through Rank Organization, which presented him with opportunities in 1956.
He also depicted a juvenile delinquent in Violent Playground and made his film debut in Freud: The Secret Passion in 1962.
In 1963, he took on the character of Lt Cdr Eric Ashley in The Great Escape and appeared in various television series. He received offers from TV programs such as Colditz and Kidnapped, where he had roles for more than two years. In 1979, he embraced the opportunity to work on ITV’s science-fiction series Sapphire and Steel.
McCallum launched his music career in 1960, producing four consecutive albums for Capitol Records. His rendition of “On Edge” appeared in the movie Baby Driver in 2017. He also played bass with a band in a nightclub during an episode of Man from Uncle; in his own compositions, he played guitar and various instruments in the Broadway Affair. In 2016, he published a crime novel titled ‘Once a Crooked Man’ and began work on his second novel.
