In his last two years of boxing, he faced the then-emerging contender Joe Calzaghe in an attempt to regain the WBO super-middleweight title; the victorious Calzaghe later remarked that it was the toughest match of his career.[4] Carl Thompson, the WBO junior heavyweight champion, was Eubank’s adversary in his final two bouts, both of which were fierce encounters. Eubank experienced his first and only stoppage during the rematch.

Eubank is recognized for having a “granite” chin due to his bravery in the ring, as he managed to endure significant strikes from powerful punchers during both his victories and defeats.(5) Chris Eubank Jr., his son, is also a professional pugilist.

In New York, Eubank began training at the Jerome Boxing Club on Westchester Avenue, much like his older siblings, Peter and Simon Eubank, who were twins in England. Eubank developed a passion for boxing training and began visiting the gym daily while financially supporting himself as a caretaker. At the age of eighteen, he progressed to the semifinals of Madison Square Garden’s primary Golden Gloves tournament, in addition to winning the Spanish Golden Gloves Tournament in 1984.

In his autobiography, he mentions that the mistreatment he faced from his older brothers was a significant driving force behind his desire to fit in and be accepted, which ultimately fueled his motivation to succeed in boxing.

Shortly after turning 19, he competed in his first professional match against Tim Brown at the Atlantis Hotel and Casino. His subsequent ten bouts were largely overlooked, until in February 1989, he briefly gained fame when he defeated Anthony Logan of Jamaica in a match that was part of a Nigel Benn main event. Logan had nearly bested Benn, a rising star at the time. Eubank, now confident he could take on Benn, focused his attention on the Englishman and adopted Brighton as his home.
