Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade was brought into the world on February 7, 1978, to the family of Mr. Oluwashola Jalade and Mrs. Oluwatoyin Jalade née Amori Oguntade in Ondo State. As the firstborn in a family of five, Omosexy, as she is affectionately known, has two younger brothers: Tayo and Bolaji Jalade.
Omotola completed her education at Chrisland School, Opebi from 1981 to 1987, attended Oxford Children School in 1987, and then proceeded to Santos Layout and Command Secondary School, Kaduna from 1988 to 1993. She briefly attended Obafemi Awolowo University before completing her education at Yaba College of Technology from 1996 to 2004, where she majored in Estate Management.
Prior to her entrance into acting, Omotola pursued modeling to support herself. However, she was introduced to acting by a friend she accompanied to an audition. Her inaugural acting role occurred in the 1995 film Venom of Justice, directed by Reginald Ebere, who is often credited with kickstarting Omotola’s career. She secured the leading role in the film, which paved the way for her prosperous journey in the Nollywood film sector.
Omotola has featured in over 300 films, establishing a significant reputation within the Nigerian film industry.
Apart from her achievements in entertainment, she is also recognized for her exceptional humanitarian initiatives. Omotola is among the trailblazers of the video film era in Nigerian cinema, rising as one of the most viewed actresses in Africa.
The mother of four ventured into music in 2005 with the launch of her debut album titled “gba.” The album yielded popular tracks like “Naija Lowa” and “The Things You Do To Me.”
Her second, yet unreleased album – Me, Myself, and Eyes, featured production from Paul Play and Del B. It included songs such as “Feel Alright,” featuring Harrysong, and “Through the Fire,” featuring Uche. The album’s launch event was planned to take place in Nigeria, with tables priced at N1 million.
Omotola united in matrimony with Captain Matthew Ekeinde in 1996. The couple later celebrated a white wedding aboard a Dash 7 aircraft while en route from Lagos to Benin in 2001, attended by close family and friends. She welcomed her first daughter on March 30, 1997. Together, they are parents to four children: Princess, M.J., Meraiah, and Michael.
