Abba Kyari‘s Life Story
He was born on the 17th of March 1975 in Borno state. His father and stepmother brought up Kyari following his mother’s departure when he was 7. He has 12 siblings. Kyari faced a challenging childhood and had to work as a motorcycle rider and fuel vendor to make ends meet.
Education
He completed his primary and secondary education in Borno, after which he earned a degree in Geography from the University of Maiduguri. He undertook his NYSC program in Akwa Ibom state.
Career
Reports indicate that Abba Kyari always aspired to be either a pilot or a police officer; however, due to the high costs associated with becoming a trained pilot, he chose to pursue a career in law enforcement.
He enrolled in the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State in 2001 and graduated as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
After graduating, he was assigned to the Adamawa State Police Command for a mandatory one-year attachment in the Song Police Division.
Throughout his career, he served as a Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) in Numan, Adamawa State, and also as Unit Commander 14 PMF Yola.
Kyari was quickly elevated to 2 IC and then became Officer-in-Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad at the Lagos State Police Command (SARS).
Prior to his suspension, he led the Nigerian Police Force’s Intelligence Response Team IRT based in Abuja.

The situation escalated when the US, in July 2021, disclosed that international swindler, Hushpuppi, bribed Kyari to aid in imprisoning a fellow fraud member in Nigeria named Vincent after disputes arose over a $1.1 million scam.
Kyari took to his social media platform to refute the claims; however, US court documents indicated that he was an accomplice to Hushpuppi’s offenses and even visited the fraudster in Dubai.
The elite officer stated on social media that he never solicited money from Hushpuppi and maintained his innocence.
While he contended that he was unaware of the financial dispute between Hushpuppi and Vincent, the DCP confirmed that Vincent was apprehended but not incarcerated. He mentioned that Vincent has since been released.
