“Five Suspects Busted in Sokoto: Authorities Uncover Counterfeit Cash Operation”



The Nigeria Police Force, Sokoto state command reported that its operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit have apprehended five individuals suspected of being part of a counterfeit currency syndicate referred to as “Sai Malam.”

In a release by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, three suspects—Muhd Hamidu from Kwanni, Niger Republic, along with Umar Hassan and Sadik Isah from Illela Local Government Area—have been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for additional inquiry.

It was noted that intelligence efforts led to the capture of two additional suspects: Buhari Abubakar and Kasimu Muhammad, both residing in the Makera Asada quarters of Sokoto Metropolis.

The statement indicated that the command has efficiently recovered counterfeit bills and ritualistic items believed to have been utilized in the illicit operations by the suspects.

In a distinct operation on March 10, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit responded to an emergency call regarding suspected members of the banned ‘Yan Sakai group in Dakalo village within the Dange Shuni Local Government Area.

This group, led by an individual named Sani Nabuzuwa, is suspected of involvement in incidents of manslaughter and livestock theft.

“Upon noticing the police, the suspects began shooting but were overpowered by the tactical team and retreated into a nearby forest,” he stated.

Items seized at the location include “a modified AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 11 rounds of live ammunition, 180 sheep believed to have been stolen, and a Kasea motorcycle.
