“20 Drivers Sentenced for Overloading and Speeding Offenses in Ogun by FRSC”

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun State Command has achieved the legal conviction of 20 drivers for differing traffic infractions within the state.

The violators were sentenced during the Phase II of FRSC Mobile Court proceedings held at the Itori unit command, overseen by Her Worship, Chief Magistrate O.T. Odunsaya.

As stated in a press release disseminated on Friday by the Corps Public Relations Officer, Odunsi Afolabi, the offenders were brought to court and subsequently found guilty.

“The session witnessed 20 individuals being charged and subsequently convicted, without any acquittals reported. A total of 40 violations were recorded, 39 of which incurred various penalties and none was subjected to imprisonment,” he remarked.

Afolabi mentioned that the enforcement operation concentrated on violations concerning safety such as speed limit devices, overloading, seatbelts, and driver’s licenses, as well as issues related to tires, vehicle licenses, number plate infractions, general vehicle upkeep, and associated traffic violations.

While addressing attendees, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, highlighted that this initiative is a fundamental element of the command’s ongoing enforcement strategy.

Fasakin elaborated that mobile courts enhance operational presence and ensure rigorous adherence to traffic laws to diminish road traffic accidents throughout the state’s operational routes.

Moreover, he praised the calm and organized nature of the proceedings, observing that the operation was backed by sufficient security from armed personnel.

The commander encouraged drivers to prioritize safe driving habits and confirm appropriate vehicle documentation to avert unnecessary injuries and deaths, emphasizing that this approach acts as a deterrent to reckless driving and reaffirms its commitment to prosecuting those who jeopardize lives on Nigerian highways.
