“Obazee and Police Commissioner Called to Testify in Emefiele’s $6.23M Fraud Showdown”

Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court has summoned two principal witnesses to testify in the ongoing trial of former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, regarding an alleged $6.23 million fraud.
The witnesses, Jim Obazee and Eloho Okpoziakpo, are anticipated to appear before the court on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

Emefiele is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on an adjusted 20-count charge relating to criminal breach of trust, forgery, abuse of office, and conspiracy to acquire money under false pretenses.

In a subpoena dated April 27, 2026, Justice Muazu instructed the witnesses to be present in court at 9:00 a.m. and to continue attending proceedings until the case is resolved.

The court specifically mandated them to present evidence, including newspaper articles concerning the contentious Naira redesign policy.

According to the judge, both witnesses were engaged in investigations that led to the charges against Emefiele and are expected to offer insights on matters surrounding the policy.

The case is part of ongoing legal actions against the former head of the apex bank, with prosecutors claiming financial misconduct totaling $6.23 million.
