The Traditional Prime Minister of Ike Mgboko autonomous community in Obingwa local government area of Abia State, Daniel Iheadindueme has denounced the devastation of recently cultivated crops in his community.
He stated that the damage was purportedly caused by livestock owned by Fulani herdsmen.
Iheadindueme, who also serves as the Commander of Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante, identified the impacted regions to include Mgboko Okpulor village, Mgboko Amairi village, and Nne Nkute area.
He claimed that herdsmen drove their livestock into the fields, threatened the farmers, and subsequently allowed their animals to graze freely on newly sprouted crops.
Iheadindueme, who voiced concern that this distressing development posed a danger to food security and economic stability for the locals, cautioned that it could exacerbate hunger in the rural communities if the devastation persisted.
The community leader warned herdsmen against encroaching onto individuals’ farms or engaging in other forms of violence, stating that anyone who disregarded this warning would be detained and handed over to relevant law enforcement bodies for prosecution.
Iheadindueme urged the leader of the Hausa community in Abia State to educate their members on adhering to established laws and community regulations.
The Traditional Prime Minister of Ike Mgboko, who expressed gratitude to Governor Alex Otti for prioritizing the safety of Abia people, also encouraged farmers to abide by the law and to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
