
The Ogun State Police Command reports that it has initiated an inquiry into the midnight assault on student accommodations at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ibogun Campus.
NAIJATAB conveys that the alleged thieves breached the hostels, inducing chaos and compelling students to vacate their rooms on Saturday.
As per a social media update by one Jinadu Michael Mabayomije on X, the assailants, numbering around 12, invaded the hostels, firing indiscriminately and robbing students of their phones, laptops, and other treasures.
It was reported that some victims suffered injuries while trying to escape.
The post states: “Armed robbery incident at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ibogun Campus, Ifo LGA, Ogun State, at midnight. A group of about 12 armed thieves invaded student accommodations, seizing phones and gadgets, carjacking a student’s vehicle, and leaving some students hurt and bleeding.
“The assailants were heavily equipped, firing as they traversed various hostels on campus. Students were gripped by fear and turmoil. Some sustained injuries. This degree of criminality within a university environment cannot be endorsed.
“We urge the Ogun State Government, Police NG, and Ogun Police Command to promptly investigate this occurrence, apprehend the offenders, and guarantee the safety of students on campus. Our students have the right to learn in a secure environment,” it continued.
In response to the incident, the spokesperson of the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, mentioned that the Divisional Police Officer of Ibogun Police Division and the Area Commander have been dispatched to the location to evaluate the circumstances.
