“Unveiling the Shadows: US Targets Iranian Oil-for-Gold Operations with New Sanctions”

The United States administration on Wednesday imposed sanctions on an Iranian clandestine fleet and an oil-for-gold system alleged to finance terrorism.

The State Department clarified that this measure was taken to restrict Iran’s capacity to generate income amid the ongoing blockage of the Strait of Hormuz.

The sanctions target components of the United States-designated Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani’s “multi-billion-dollar oil trafficking empire.”

Also impacted is an oil-for-gold scheme that funds Hezbollah and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp-Qods Force (IRGC-QF), both labeled by the U.S.

Washington accuses the Iranian authorities of persistently enriching “corrupt elites like the Shamkhani family” while average Iranians endure hardship under a declining economy.

The government maintains that Tehran diverts national wealth to terrorist organizations in the Middle East, asserting that its designations highlight their commitment to maximum pressure on Iran and its affiliates.

The U.S. stated that the intricate schemes involving illicit Iranian oil, gold, and terrorist financing illustrate the lengths to which Iran and its associates will go to circumvent sanctions.

The Trump Administration has sanctioned over 1,000 individuals, vessels, and aircraft as part of its initiative against Iranian malign activities.

The State Department pledged to persist in denying Iran and its affiliates “the resources they utilize to jeopardize U.S. interests and regional stability.”
