“Supreme Court Affirms Death Penalty for Two Convicted Killers in Jigawa: A Landmark Decision”

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has upheld the death penalties of two individuals sentenced for distinct murder cases in Jigawa State, rejecting their appeals and concluding years of judicial proceedings.

In a unanimous ruling issued on Friday, the highest court dismissed the appeals labeled SC/CR/2020/69 and SC/CR/70/2020, affirming prior decisions by the Jigawa State High Court and the Court of Appeal of Nigeria.

The offenders, Abdulmajid Hassan and Adamu Audu, had been found culpable in individual events involving deadly stabbings. The Supreme Court’s decision effectively depletes all legal avenues accessible to the defendants, reaffirming the penalties handed down by the lower courts.

In response to the ruling in Abuja, Jigawa State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Bello A. Fanini, stated that the judgments underscore the state government’s resolve to ensure justice in instances of violent offenses.

“This result conveys a clear indication that Jigawa is not a refuge for criminal conduct,” Fanini remarked, adding that the state’s legal framework remains dedicated to protecting lives and properties.
