The Abia State branch of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has selected Kalu Agu as its new State Chairman.
Agu was chosen at the party’s state convention held in Umuahia, the State capital, on Saturday.
Other appointed officials comprise Obinna Okey as Deputy State Chairman; Mrs. Uwaoma Olenwengwa, Secretary; and Mrs. Francess Ogbonnaya as State Publicity Secretary, among others.
The voting took place via a voice vote following a motion introduced by Longman Nwachukwu and seconded by Uchenna Okogbue.
Speaking shortly after his selection, the new ADC Chairman, Agu, expressed the party’s commitment to triumph in elections within the state ahead of the 2027 general elections, asserting that disgruntled members would be united and reconciled.
“We will bring all members back to the negotiating table and pursue sincere peace and forgiveness. We will apologize to those we might have wronged because a house divided against itself cannot endure,” he remarked.
Chairman of the Congress Committee, Fredrick Onwe, stated that the process was carried out in accordance with the party’s constitution and guidelines. He conveyed confidence in the party’s increasing influence in Abia State.
He criticized the actions of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, against the ADC national leadership, emphasizing that the opposition party would continue to advance with its constitutional endeavors.
