The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, April 9, 2026, took into custody 31 individuals believed to be involved in internet fraud at a training center in Becki Estate, Karu, within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The apprehended individuals comprised two leaders and multiple interns, all detained while partaking in internet fraud education.
The EFCC retrieved mobile phones, 18 laptops, and additional electronic gadgets from them.
The academy allegedly confined the participants within the premises, limited their movements, and seized their cell phones to isolate them from the outside environment.
“Investigation by the EFCC uncovered that some of the interns were enticed from Benue State by the proprietors of the academy with the allure of job opportunities, but upon arrival at the facility, were presented with communication devices, computers, and software, laying the groundwork for their education in cyber fraud,” the EFCC stated in a message on its Facebook page.
Reports also indicate that interns who defied regulations faced corporeal penalties.
According to the anti-corruption body, the suspects will face legal proceedings once investigations reach completion.
