A leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hafiz Idris, has accused Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin of being accountable for the switch of Yusuf Gawuna to the African Democratic Congress.
Idris revealed this in a statement on Thursday.
He claimed that Barau impeded Gawuna’s prospects of obtaining a significant political position following his loss in the 2023 gubernatorial election to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP.
As per his assertion, the situation ultimately prompted Gawuna’s choice to depart the APC for the ADC.
He additionally criticized the Deputy Senate President of scheming to hinder the nomination of Gawuna’s former running mate, Murtala Garo, as the forthcoming Deputy Governor of Kano State after the resignation of Aminu Abdulsalam.
Idris asserted that Barau is “profoundly uneasy” with Garo’s potential rise and is diligently working behind the curtain to thwart his nomination, allegedly preferring an alternative contender based on political factors, including regional equilibrium and influence.
Recall that Yusuf left NNPP for the ruling party. Subsequently, his deputy, Abdulsalam, resigned.
