Political advocate, Aisha Yesufu, has stated that representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, were allegedly bribed to displace the leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Yesufu made this assertion on Monday during a live interview segment on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’.
The co-organizer of the BringBackOurGirls Movement further indicated that there are rumored accounts suggesting that the INEC Chairperson was coerced into his decision.
Recall that INEC recently removed former Senate President David Mark as the national chairman of the party.
Expressing her viewpoint, Yesufu remarked, “There are allegations that INEC representatives were possibly bribed with amounts reaching $50,000, and land was provided. Where are the EFCC and ICPC in all of this?
“The judiciary has transformed itself into the tool of corrupt politicians. And that’s not its intended role. You observe areas where residences are being constructed for them, where various types of meetings are occurring, and suchlike. That’s what concerns all of us.
“My perspective is that one institution should maintain its independence, and if you possess institutions that are autonomous, not where you hear of individuals being threatened.
“If there exists independence, along with accountability and transparency, we wouldn’t see all of these antics taking place.
“Let’s take all matters to court and resolve them there, but when you observe the institutions, including the judiciary, have become instruments of oppression, willing tools for suppressing opposition parties, then that certainly troubles us, and the democracy of our nation.
“This democracy, by the way, countless individuals sacrificed their lives for us to attain what we enjoy today, and we cannot allow a few individuals to come and dismantle it simply because they wish to cling to power that they do not merit,” Yesufu declared.
