Vice President, Kashim Shettima has conveyed assurance that Nigeria will shortly surmount its security obstacles, reassuring citizens that the Federal Government is diligently striving to reinstate tranquility throughout the nation.
Shettima articulated this on Tuesday in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, during a function where he formally welcomed Governor Dauda Lawal and his allies into the All Progressives Congress (APC) on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We hope for increased unity and advancement under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because as our leader, he is exerting considerable effort to guarantee the safety of lives and assets across Nigeria,” Shettima stated.
He remarked that the decision by the Zamfara governor to affiliate with the ruling party would fortify ongoing initiatives to address insecurity, especially in afflicted states.
The Vice President also promised Lawal the complete support of both the Federal Government and the APC while commending the residents of Zamfara for their backing.
Previously, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, who represented Senate President Godswill Akpabio, expressed that lawmakers elected on the APC platform were entirely in favor of the governor’s transition.
“The Governor will now collaborate with other governors to aid in resolving the challenges of the state and further promote advancement,” Barau remarked.
He added that although security issues are not exclusive to Zamfara, they can be mitigated through collaboration among leaders.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, characterized the defection as a notable political shift, asserting it heralded a new chapter for the state.
“Currently, there is no opposition in Zamfara State,” Abbas stated, encouraging residents to back the governor for enhanced development.
Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, also applauded the transition, labeling it as advantageous for both the state and the party.
“APC is a progressing entity, and we are pleased that the State has joined this movement. All APC Governors will support Governor Lawal in doing more for this State,” he expressed.
Likewise, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda proclaimed that Zamfara has now completely aligned with the ruling party. He praised Lawal’s achievements, particularly in infrastructure development, and presented him with the party’s flag.
In his comments, Governor Lawal expressed gratitude to former governors, including Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle and Senator Abdulazeez Yari, for their assistance.
“I will embrace all my predecessors and will strive diligently for the advancement of Zamfara State,” Lawal stated, committing loyalty to the APC and dedication to development.
