Former Special Advisor to President Bola Tinubu on Political Affairs, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, asserts that Nigeria is presently in greater distress than when Tinubu assumed the presidency in 2023.
Baba-Ahmed expressed this on Tuesday while answering questions during an interview on Trust TV, firmly stating that even Tinubu is aware of his shortcomings.
He discussed the condition of Nigeria as a country, spanning from economic issues to security concerns.
“We are in a more severe predicament than when you took office. Violence is escalating beyond our projections. Three years into President Tinubu’s administration, we’re witnessing an increase in the frequency and severity of violence, along with its effects on our populace that we’ve never encountered before.
“This is a president who came into office vowing to eliminate this insecurity and to carve out a new direction for Nigeria, to improve living standards for its citizens, and to ensure life is safer and more plentiful.
“The president himself would concede that he has not succeeded in fulfilling these commitments, in realizing the promises he has made, and in ensuring the safety of Nigerians.
“A few days ago, the President, accompanied by a large contingent of ministers and government officials, traveled to the United Kingdom on a state visit. According to media reports, it was a very celebratory occasion.
“This occurred at a time when, just a few days earlier, there was one of the most atrocious attacks in Borno state, shortly before the departure of this sizable group led by the President,” he expressed with sorrow.
