The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has sanctioned the dismissal of 171 students for submitting counterfeit admission credentials.
This resolution was made during the university’s 433rd Senate assembly held on March 4, 2026, as per a statement released by the institution’s Public Affairs Directorate on behalf of the Registrar.
The university indicated that this action was a result of an evaluation of a report by the Senate Committee on Admission Qualification Anomalies, which examined inconsistencies in students’ enrollment records.
The statement noted that the students in question were discovered to have doctored the documents utilized for their admission into the university.
“The resolution was made after considering and endorsing the report presented by the Senate Committee on Admission Qualification Anomalies,” the statement mentioned.
Additionally, it pointed out that the misdeed breaches the university’s regulations as detailed in its General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR).
“This act is a violation under Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of the University’s regulations, which mandates expulsion for students found guilty of altering admission qualifications,” the bulletin stated.
In a similar matter, the Senate also sanctioned the expulsion of a student from the Civil Engineering Department, known as Yusuf Muhammad Sani, due to an episode of physical aggression during an examination.
The university asserted that the student assaulted invigilators, thereby obstructing the examination process.
“The occurrence was determined to contravene Section 20.7, Category A (vi) of the University’s regulations,” the statement added.
The institution reaffirmed its dedication to upholding academic integrity and discipline, cautioning that it will persist in enforcing its regulations against any type of misconduct.
