Imo SDP Unveils Interim Leadership in Countdown to 2027 Elections

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, Imo State Branch, has received a new Interim Executive that will supervise its activities leading up to the 2027 general elections.

Chigozie Ekeogu was elected Chairman, alongside other executive members.

The newly appointed party executive is tasked with incentivizing membership registration, as well as steering the party toward electoral successes.

In a speech to party members, the national youth leader of SDP and the immediate past Imo State Chairman, Ifeanyi Henry Eluwa, stated that the appointment aimed to fortify the party’s framework across the 27 LGAs of the State.

“Today, we declare Gozie Ekeogu as the Interim Chairman of SDP, Imo State. His guidance will lead us to congress and equip us to engage effectively in electoral competitions.

“We will consistently operate in accordance with the party’s ideologies, which are anchored on Social Justice and Good Governance.

“It was upon these principles that MKO Abiola founded his campaign and clinched the presidential election that was disrupted by the military,” he remarked.

Eluwa asserted that SDP stands as one of the most democratically sound and committed political parties in the nation, free from any factional divisions, which he believes makes it stronger and strategically positioned to reshape political discourse in the State and beyond.

He indicated that over 80 candidates for elective positions in 2027 have shown interest in joining the party due to its unity and stability.

The outgoing Chairman dismissed rumors regarding a merger between SDP and APP, emphasizing that the party can only consider forming a coalition when necessary, but not with APP.

He expressed his commitment to supporting and collaborating with the interim Chairman in order to strengthen the party’s framework and achieve success.

Other appointed executive members include: Achonwa Amaobichukwu, Organizing Secretary, Ngozi Amajuoyi, Women Leader, Labour and Civil Society Secretary, Bright Nze, among others.

In his speech, the new State Chairman, Ekeogu, on behalf of his executive members, conveyed his joy and appreciation regarding their appointments, promising not to let the party down but to work diligently to bolster its framework at the State, LGAs, and Wards levels.
