Tragic Blaze Claims Lives of Two Children in Jigawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has validated two distinct fire occurrences in Dutse that resulted in the fatalities of two children and caused considerable property destruction.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, revealed this in a statement circulated to NAIJATAB.

He mentioned that a sorrowful event transpired in the early hours of March 17 at approximately 4 am in Layin Dabinai, close to Masallacin Malam Babba.

The fire, the origin of which remains undetermined, reportedly spread swiftly and consumed rooms occupied by two children of Aminuddeen Abubakar, an employee of Federal University Dutse.

Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, both children, aged two and six, were pronounced dead at the site.

In another occurrence later on March 19 at around 12 noon, another fire outbreak took place within the same Gida Dubu vicinity.
Initial investigations suggested that the fire was sparked by an electrical fault in the kitchen of a resident, Nura Garba, commonly referred to as Dangwan Gwan.

The flames extended to neighboring houses owned by Mu’azu Garba and Mohammed Aliyu, known as Jaujen Hadejia, damaging parts of the kitchens and roofing materials.

Fortunately, no lives were lost in the second incident, as firefighters acted promptly and controlled the blaze before it could spread further.

The NSCDC indicated that while the reason for the first fire remains unknown, appropriate authorities will conduct a comprehensive investigation into both incidents to ascertain their causes and suggest preventive strategies.

The Command expressed heartfelt sympathies to the mourning family and empathized with all those impacted by the fires.

It also encouraged residents to stay alert and follow fire safety protocols meticulously, particularly concerning the use of electrical devices and open flames, to avert future incidents.

The NSCDC reiterated its dedication to safeguarding lives and property throughout Jigawa State.
