In 1980, upon finishing secondary education, he joined Plateau State Polytechnic in Barkin Ladi.
Later, he traveled abroad on a scholarship to attend Indiana University in Terre Haute, Indiana, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Technology and a Master of Science in Industrial Technology.

Sule returned to Nigeria in 1985 to serve as a youth corps member for the Plateau Utilities Board.
In that same year, he was employed as a Production Engineer at the Jos Steel Rolling Mill.
After moving back to the United States in 1989, he worked with several organizations (including Lancer Corporation, OEM component, and Osyka Corporation) until returning to Nigeria in 2000.
Upon his return, he co-established and became the managing director/CEO of Sadiq Petroleum Nigeria Limited in Lagos.
Under his direction, the firm successfully acquired African Petroleum (AP) Plc, where he was appointed as CEO in 2001.
Prior to his gubernatorial aspirations in 2018, on June 21, Abdullahi Sule was appointed as the Company’s substantive Group Managing Director (GMD) at Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc.
On October 1, 2018, he emerged victorious in the All Progressive Congress gubernatorial primaries in Nasarawa State.
Engineer Abdullahi Sule was proclaimed the Governor-elect of Nasarawa State on March 10, 2019, following the gubernatorial election held on March 9, 2019.
He officially took office as governor of Nasarawa State on May 29, 2019.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Nasarawa State, Gov. Abdullahi Sule, has been announced the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The announcement was made on Monday at the Nasarawa State Collation Center by Prof. Ishaya Tanko, INEC’s State Collation Officer and Returning Officer.
The APC candidate garnered a total of 347,209 votes, surpassing David Ombugadu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, who obtained 283,016 votes, as stated by the INEC returning officer.
