Iyabo Oko attended Oke-Ola Primary School in Iwo, Osun State. She moved to Port Harcourt, where her father, a serving soldier in the Nigerian Army, was stationed, and she was admitted to St. Andrews Secondary School, Port Harcourt.

Oga Bello brought her into the limelight after she worked with Oga Bello’s Theatre Group in Lagos. A film titled Oko was directed and produced by Oga Bello during her joining year. Iyabo Oko earned her nickname from Oga Bello’s production, Oko.

While aiming to stabilize her career, she experienced the loss of her father, although her mother witnessed her career’s development. Some of the films Iyabo Oko featured in include Idunnu Okan, Mayowa, and Okobo Dimeji, to name a few.

In 2018, she took an extended hiatus from the industry due to health challenges. After this break, she announced plans to launch her own business, expressing dissatisfaction with the income derived from acting.

Kudirat suffered from an undisclosed ailment in 2016. She overcame the illness and was taken abroad in 2018 for comprehensive treatment with her son’s assistance.

Upon her return to Nigeria, she indicated that she had been medically advised to reduce stress-inducing activities. She also chose to take a lengthy break from the film sector.

On January 5, 2021, Iyabo Oko was confirmed deceased but revived after three hours. Such occurrences transpired twice, suggesting she was not ready to pass. She was subsequently diagnosed with Ischaemic Stroke.

Iyabo Oko is an active member of the Alliance for Progressive Change (APC). She was among the Nollywood stars and actresses who advocated for PVCs in 2015. During this campaign, she revealed that she was previously a member of the PDP but departed as they offered her nothing.

Among those in the APC team are Moji Olaiya, Remi Shitta-Bay, Remi Oshodi (Surutu), Ronke Oshodi-Oke, Eniola Badmus (Omo-Ghetto), Fadeyi Oloro, and L’Awori.

Reports indicate that Iyabo Oko, who had been absent from the film industry for several years, was grappling with health issues, which ultimately contributed to her premature passing.

While many aspects surrounding her death remain undisclosed, her daughter, Bisi Aisha, affirmed the news of her passing.

She stated, “May your soul Rest in Peace, Mummy.”
