Seven-bedroom building damaged by fire in Taraba

The prompt action of firefighters averted a weekend blaze from extending to adjacent structures in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State.

The fire, which took place on Saturday in the Jeka Da Fari region of the state capital, was controlled before it could inflict significant damage to nearby buildings.

As per the Taraba State Command of the Federal Fire Service, the rapid intervention helped preserve assets valued at around N50 million.

While goods estimated at nearly N20 million were lost in the occurrence, the fire service confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries reported.

In a press release issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sylvanus Mikailu, the fire event was reported at roughly 9:16 am via the National Emergency line (112), with the notification passed on by the National Communications Commission.

Initial investigations, the release stated, suggest that the blaze was initiated by an electrical surge.

The spokesperson clarified that the incident involved a seven-bedroom home spanning about 100 by 100 feet, owned by Danladi Gwampo.

“Firefighters from the Federal Fire Service were promptly dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, the team conducted a swift evaluation and commenced an intensive firefighting effort,” the release indicated.

The operation, according to the release, was aided by the Taraba State Fire Service, while personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and the Nigerian Army provided security support at the site.
