“ACF Urges Tinubu and INEC: Safeguard the 2027 Election by Revisiting Past Decisions!”

The Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to reassess recent decisions, warning they could jeopardize the 2027 general elections.

ACF National Publicity Secretary, T. A. Muhammad-Baba, addressed Leadership newspaper regarding the nation’s condition, voicing apprehension over what he termed unsettling occurrences in the country’s electoral process.

He pointed to INEC’s dismissal of the leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, headed by David Mark, along with the suggested voter revalidation initiative, as measures that could compromise democratic integrity.

Muhammad-Baba indicated that such actions could diminish public trust in the electoral framework, emphasizing that they risk fostering uncertainty in the lead-up to the next general elections.

He also cautioned that Nigeria is already facing escalating insecurity and economic difficulties, highlighting that introducing political strife at this juncture could worsen the scenario.

“It seems like every action taken by INEC or the political powers is putting the 2027 election at risk. It isn’t too late, and we hope to appeal to the government, to INEC, and all parties involved to reconsider their strategies and adhere to the principles and foundations of democracy.

“Otherwise, all these actions truly herald a crisis, which is detrimental to the country. We have enough challenges with insecurity. We have enough issues with economic distress,” Muhammad-Baba remarked.

He asserted that stakeholders must strictly comply with democratic principles to prevent plunging the nation into another political upheaval.

The ACF representative urged the federal government, INEC, and other essential participants to reassess their approaches and ensure that all measures taken reinforce, rather than undermine, the country’s democracy.
