
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has rejected rumors regarding his supposed shift from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that he continues to be a member of the party.
NAIJATAB reports that Gov Mohammed has been speculated to be contemplating a transition from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor was reportedly weighing the option of departing the PDP, with suggestions that the transition could happen this week.
Responding to the situation shortly after the inauguration of 17 newly appointed permanent secretaries at the Government House on Wednesday, the governor, when approached by reporters for comments on the rumored transition, opted not to provide an immediate interview but stated that he would discuss the issue later.
“Journalists, no interview at this moment. I will engage with Channels at 7 pm,” he stated.
He, nonetheless, briefly touched on the reports, mentioning: “I have not departed; they claimed I have switched.”
Mohammed also referred to himself as an “international figure in politics,” adding that he would offer further clarification on the topic later in the day before heading to his office.
In addressing the newly appointed permanent secretaries, the governor urged them to maintain integrity and avoid corruption in their duties.
“This administration will not accept corruption or any actions that could tarnish the government’s reputation,” he emphasized.
Mohammed encouraged the appointees to stay disciplined, refrain from insubordination, and steer clear of partisan politics while serving in their roles.
He also tasked them with mentoring younger civil servants, indicating that ongoing reforms in the civil service depend on cultivating a new generation built on ethics and professionalism.
The governor additionally reassured retirees of his administration’s dedication to resolving outstanding gratuities, estimated to be around N20 billion, stating that the payment of 13-year backlog commenced in January 2026.
The oath of office was administered by the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Talatu Musa Umar.
