David Adedeji Adeleke, widely recognized by his stage moniker, Davido, is a Nigerian musician born on November 21, 1992, in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A.
Davido was brought into the world by a Nigerian entrepreneur, Chief Deji Adeleke, and a university educator mother, Vero Adeleke, who has since passed away.
He attended The British International School in Lagos.
Moving between the USA, UK, and Nigeria, Davido has embraced various cultures yet remains connected to his heritage, which is reflected in his music and the artists he regards as his primary inspirations, including Don Jazzy, 2 Face Idibia, Sound Sultan, and Wande Coal.
Davido gained prominence in 2011 with his smash hit “Dami Duro,” which was embraced across Nigeria. He also established his own record label alongside his older brother Adewale Adeleke. The label, known as “HKN,” is home to artists such as Sina Rambo, B.Red, Mayourkun, Peruzzi, and others.
As a music producer, the artist has created tracks for renowned musicians like Tiwa Savage, Naeto C, Skales, and Sauce Kid.
He launched an album titled “Omo Baba Olowo (OBO)” in 2012, receiving support from singles like “Back When” featuring Naeto C, “Ekuro,” “Gbon Gbon,” and “Feel Alright” featuring Ice Prince.

In January 2016, Davido announced on his Twitter account that he had secured a recording contract with Sony Music, a declaration met with varied responses online.
Just a few months following the signing, Davido launched another record label, Davido Music Worldwide (DMW). He brought on board music artist Mayorkun and rapper Dremo into the label.
Davido inked deals with Mayorkun and Dremo.
MUSIC CAREER
Regarding his foray into music, Davido mentioned that he had been making music for about a year but truly committed to it in March 2011. He was previously part of a group called KB International in America. He opted to pursue his career independently and returned to Nigeria when things didn’t progress as desired.
“I began associating with individuals inclined towards music, undertaking what I love most, and I’m thrilled to do it while earning a living,” he stated.
Davido studied at the British International School in Lagos and pursued Business Administration at Oakwood University. He indicated that his passion for music stemmed from his time at Oakwood, where he acquired musical equipment and began producing beats.
Davido eventually dropped out of Oakwood University due to low academic performance and returned to Nigeria in 2011, momentarily sidelining his music career to honor his father by enrolling at Babcock University.
Upon his return, Davido debuted his studio album “Omo Baba Olowo (OBO)” and released his first single “Back When” featuring rapper Naeto C. The track was accompanied by a video shot by Clarence Peters.
On October 30, 2011, Davido also released “Dami Duro,” co-produced with label mate Shizzi. The music video premiered in early 2012, filmed on location in Lagos and directed by Clarence Peters.
Davido also launched tracks from the album such as “Overseas” and “All Of You,” produced by Gospelondebeat. He went on to promote singles like “Ekuro,” “Gbon Gbon,” and “Feel Alright” with music videos.
In 2013, Davido began recording his second studio album, from which he released “Gobe” along with visuals shot by Godfather Productions in South Africa.
He also issued more tracks from the album such as “Aye,” “Skelewu,” and “One Of a Kind.” Most of the singles were rightfully accompanied by visuals, including “Aye,” produced by Tspice, with a video directed by Clarence Peters, and “One Of A Kind,” filmed in South Africa by Tebza of Godfather Productions.
