Early Years & Education

Don Jazzy entered the world on November 26, 1982, in Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria, born to Mr. Collins Enebeli Ajereh and Mrs. Ajereh. He originates from Delta State (Isoko ethnicity) and his mother is an Igbo royalty. Growing up in Ajegunle, Lagos, Jazzy attended the Federal Government College in Lagos before earning a degree in Business Administration from Ambrose Alli University in Edo State.

His passion for music ignited at the age of 12 when he learned to play the piano and bass guitar while also dabbling in percussion instruments. In 2000, he traveled to London where he played drums in a church and worked as a security guard at McDonald’s while pursuing his musical aspirations.

In 2004, Don Jazzy and vocalist D’banj jointly established Mo’ Hits Records. He produced hit albums such as No Long Thing and Rundown/Funk You Up, and made popular the catchphrase “It’s Don Jazzy Again!”

Following his separation from D’banj in 2012, Don Jazzy initiated Mavin Records. The label expanded quickly, signing artists like Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, Rema, Ayra Starr, Crayon, Magixx, and Ladipoe. Mavin Records has established itself as Nigeria’s leading music powerhouse.

Don Jazzy also achieved international fame when he collaborated with Kanye West on Beyoncé’s “Lift Off” from the Watch the Throne album.
