As per records, her parents migrated to Singapore from Vietnam after the Vietnam War in 1975. They later moved to the USA when she was merely one year old. During her formative years, Tela exhibited tomboyish traits and battled alcohol addiction.
Although her parents practiced strict Buddhism, they allowed her to enjoy a free-spirited childhood. She began consuming alcohol at the age of 13 and faced several challenges during her youth.
At 14, her parents enrolled her in a boarding school for several months. Tela marked her skin with her first tattoo and initiated smoking at 14 before escaping to New York City at the age of sixteen.
Career
She departed college to chase her aspirations and managed to succeed. Her career kicked off as a model for ‘Playboy’ Magazine in the early 2000s.
Remarkably, she became the first Asian to be featured as the Cyber Girl of the Week, later advancing to Cyber Girl of the Month for ‘Playboy’ in 2002. Other publications she collaborated with include Import Tuner and Maxim UK.
With the advent of social media, she joined the networking site, MySpace, amassing an impressive 1.4 million friends in 2003, which contributed to her rising fame.
