Adegboyega Dosumu’s biography

The exact birthdate of Oba Adegboyega Dosumu remains uncertain, as some accounts indicate he was born in 1941 to his father, Prince Benjamin Okelana Dosunmu, who was the third offspring of the late Adesunmbo Dosunmu, Amororo I, who served as Olowu from 1918 to 1924.

Adegboyega Dosumu was a Nigerian by origin, and reports suggest he was 80 years of age at the time of his passing in December 2021.

Education

Oba Adesanya received his Primary Education at Owu Baptist Day School, Abeokuta, and subsequently advanced to Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta.

The Olowu of Owu eventually completed his studies at King’s College, Lagos, in 1956, after which he was admitted to Hendon College of Technology in London, where he earned a degree in Drama and Television Production. The late monarch also possessed a BSc in Theology from Landmark Baptist College, Tennessee, USA.

Career

Prior to becoming the Olowu of Owu, Oba Adegboyega was employed in the Nigerian Civil Service as a Clerk Grade-II within the Nigerian Railway Corporation, situated in the Ebute Metta area of

Lagos state.

He spent two years at the NRC and subsequently joined a broadcasting entity where he advanced to become the Director of the Drama Division.

Oba Dosunmu eventually became a Broadcaster at the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation NBC, where he once more took on the role of the Chief of the Drama Division.

The deceased Olowu of Owu is acknowledged as the producer of a renowned Nigerian television soap, The Village Headmaster, recognized as Nigeria’s longest-running popular TV series.

Nevertheless, in 1975, Oba Adegboyega departed from the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation to establish a private film production company known as Starline Films Limited, and succeeded in creating a film titled Dinner with the Devil, which brought him into the spotlight in 1974.

In addition to his role in media, the late Olowu of Owu was a politician prior to ascending to kingship; he previously held the position of Chairman for Abeokuta Local Government.

In July 2005, Adegboyega Dosumu was installed as the Olowu of Owu Kingdom and bestowed the title of Commander of the Order of Niger, CON by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
