Arthur Nzeribe: Biography
Arthur Nzeribe arrived into the world on the 2nd November, 1938 in Oguta, Imo State, Nigeria as a member of the Oyimba Nzeribe family. His father was a legal practitioner and previous state council, while his grandfather, Akpati Nzeribe, possessed the traditional title of Ogbuagu, Oshiji, Damanze Oyimba of Oguta.

Arthur lost his mother while he was still in primary education and was cared for by Catholic priests since his father was in Great Britain pursuing a law degree. After finishing primary school, he joined Bishop Shanahan College, Orlu for secondary education, later completing it at Holy Ghost College, Owerri.
In 1957, he migrated to Lagos where he found employment with Nigeria’s Port Authority (NPA) as an engineering trainee. In 1958, he received a scholarship from the NPA for marine engineering studies. He took classes at Portsmouth College of Technology and then attended Chesterfield College of Technology in England.

By 1960, Arthur Nzeribe was marketing life insurance to African immigrants in the United Kingdom. After returning to Nigeria in 1961, he was briefly employed at Shell, and then served as an Air Force trainee for a few months as well. He subsequently worked for Gulf Oil at their Escravos facility.
He soon departed Gulf Oil to return to London, where alongside one Ghanaian and two English associates, he established a public relations agency known as Jeafan. The agency collaborated with various African diplomatic missions in London, including the Ghana High Commission. Through the Ghana Commission, he encountered Kwame Nkrumah and began working for him in public relations.
In 1966, following the overthrow of Nkrumah by the National Liberation Council (NLC), Jeafan briefly lost its standing in Ghana, but the NLC administration soon sought the firm’s assistance in enhancing their public image. Nzeribe cultivated a professional relationship with Joseph Arthur Ankrah, head of the liberation council, but upon Ankrah’s departure from office in April 1969, Nzeribe’s influence in Ghana diminished.
In 1969, Arthur Nzeribe established the Fanz Organization (based in London), engaging in arms, heavy construction, publishing, real estate investment, and oil brokerage. In Nigeria, he developed Sentinel Assurance along with other enterprises.
Arthur Nzeribe is joyfully married with children. His second wife is the sibling of Hajia Asabe Yar’Adua, spouse of the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua.
In 1999, Arthur Nzeribe was elected as the Senator representing the Orlu constituency of Imo State. He achieved reelection in 2003.
