Mohammed Barkindo is a Nigerian political figure. Since August 1, 2016, he has held the role of Secretary-General of OPEC. Barkindo’s passing occurred just hours after he was commended by President Muhammadu Buhari for his exemplary service.
Barkindo’s tenure as OPEC Secretary-General was set to conclude on July 31.
In tribute to Barkindo yesterday, Buhari stated:

“We take pride in your accomplishments prior to and during your tenure at OPEC and the valuable legacies you will leave behind.
“Your leadership of OPEC has been an exceptionally challenging period for the international oil sector.”
