Iranian parliament speaker urges stronger cooperation with Russia

As both nations encounter “harsh” US restrictions, Iran’s parliamentary speaker has urged for enhanced collaboration with Russia.

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf made the statements during a joint press briefing with visiting Chairman of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, in Tehran.

The “harsh” US restrictions pose the most significant challenge to Iran, Russia, and additional nations, Qalibaf stated at a press gathering following the third assembly of Iran and Russia’s Supreme Joint Parliamentary Commission.

During the meeting, both parties deliberated on advancing collaboration, investments in the oil and gas industries, and gas exchanges.

They also talked about cooperation in agriculture, grain trade, the application of advanced technologies and transportation, in addition to the banking and monetary sectors.

Qalibaf urged Iranian and Russian financial institutions to establish branches in each other’s territories, facilitating the utilization of their respective national currencies in bilateral commerce and business dealings.

In turn, Volodin remarked that the ties between Russia and Iran have attained an “exceptional status” and have broadened across various dimensions.

A detailed agreement is currently being drafted for signing between the two nations, which will significantly enhance their relations, he noted.

Addressing the U.S. restrictions levied on both Russia and Iran, Volodin stated that they only foster greater unity between the two nations.

Volodin arrived in the Iranian capital on Sunday evening, accompanied by several Russian officials. (Xinhua/NAN)
