Xi Jinping was born on June 15, 1953, in Beijing to Xi Zhongxun. He hailed from a lineage of political figures. His father served as the Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress.
Xi Jinping’s secondary education was disrupted by the Cultural Revolution. His residence was looted, and one of his sisters lost her life. Xi Jinping was showcased publicly as an adversary of the revolution. He was dispatched to labor in a village in Yan Chuan county as part of actions taken during the Cultural Revolution.

Xi Jinping became a member of the Communist Party of China in 1974. In 1982, he took on the role of Deputy Party Secretary of Zhengding County. He advanced to Secretary in 1983 and oversaw four provinces, namely Hebei, Fujian, Zhejiang, and Shanghai, until 2007.
In 1990, he was appointed President of Fuzhou Municipal Party School. By 1997, he became an alternate member of the 15th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
