Wizkid Grammy Awards 2022: Missing out on two Nominations
The Nigerian icon and Afropop sensation, Wizkid, did not attain any further accolades from the Recording Academy this year after being overlooked during the winners’ announcement event on April 3, 2022.
Wizkid was nominated for two awards: Best Global Music Performance (“Essence”) and Best Global Music Album (“Made In Lagos – Deluxe Edition”).
Wizkid and Tems’ “Essence” was outdone by “Mohabbat” by Arooj Aftab, a Brooklyn-based Pakistani singer, music creator, and producer.
This came as a significant shock, as numerous individuals anticipated “Essence” to be a clear frontrunner from the time it launched in October 2020. Yet, one should always prepare for the unforeseen at the Grammys.
