On August 17, 2019, Ekweremadu was subjected to a violent assault while attending the Second Annual Cultural Festival and Convention hosted by Ndi-Igbo Germany in Nuremberg.
Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) stormed the event location and began questioning Ekweremadu about the fatalities of Igbos during the Nigerian army’s Operation Crocodile Smile and Python Dance.
They also confronted Ekweremadu regarding his alleged involvement in the ban of IPOB in Nigeria. Ekweremadu was forcibly expelled from the venue, assaulted, and spat upon as tensions escalated. He later noted that he exited without injury.
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, described the attack on Ekweremadu as a “gentle warning” and cautioned other Igbo governors about the potential for similar treatment.

Nigerians criticized former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu on Twitter for claiming that the South-East region would not support Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in the 2023 election.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, had been Atiku Abubakar’s running mate for president in the People’s Democratic Party’s 2019 general elections. Atiku is also the PDP’s candidate for president in 2023.

Ike Ekweremadu: Arrest – UK Child Organ Trafficking Charges In 2022
Dr. Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy President of the Senate, and his spouse Beatrice were apprehended by the Specialist Crime Team of the Metropolitan Police in London.
The two were arrested on suspicion of conspiring to exploit a child’s organs, as reported by Sky News.
However, custody of the child has been secured.

Ike Ekweremadu, Partner, Doctor Sentenced for Organ Trafficking
Former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, his wife Beatrice, and Doctor Obinna Obeta were sentenced by a judge at The Central Criminal Court, also referred to as the Old Bailey.
During a court session on Friday, May 5, 2023, Ekweremadu was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison, Beatrice to four years and six months, and Obeta to ten years.
The sentence followed their March conviction for organ trafficking. Sonia, the Ekweremadus’ ill daughter, was cleared of any wrongdoing.
The trio was found guilty of arranging or facilitating the entry of a young Nigerian male into the United Kingdom to procure his kidney for Sonia.
