Arthur Nzeribe: Biography
Arthur Nzeribe was born on the 2nd of November, 1938 in Oguta, Imo State, Nigeria, as a member of the Oyimba Nzeribe lineage. His father worked as a lawyer and former state counselor, while his grandfather, Akpati Nzeribe, held the traditional title of Ogbuagu, Oshiji, Damanze Oyimba of Oguta.

Arthur lost his mother during his primary schooling and received support from Catholic priests since his father was in the United Kingdom studying law. After completing primary education, he attended Bishop Shanahan College, Orlu for secondary schooling, later finalizing it at Holy Ghost College, Owerri.
In 1957, he relocated to Lagos and secured a position with Nigeria’s Port Authority (NPA) as an engineering apprentice. In 1958, he obtained a scholarship from the NPA for maritime engineering studies. He enrolled at Portsmouth College of Technology and subsequently attended Chesterfield College of Technology in England.

By 1960, Arthur Nzeribe was promoting life insurance to African migrants in the United Kingdom. After his return to Nigeria in 1961, he had a brief stint with Shell and also worked as an Air Force trainee for several months. Following that, he was employed by Gulf Oil at their Escravos facility.
He soon left Gulf Oil to go back to London, where he, along with one Ghanaian and two British partners, founded a public relations firm named Jeafan. The agency worked alongside various African diplomatic missions in London, which included the Ghana High Commission. Through the Ghana Commission, he met Kwame Nkrumah and began providing public relations services for him.
In 1966, after Nkrumah’s overthrow by the National Liberation Council (NLC), Jeafan temporarily lost its position in Ghana, yet the NLC administration soon requested the firm’s help to improve their public image. Nzeribe developed a professional rapport with Joseph Arthur Ankrah, the head of the liberation council, but after Ankrah’s exit in April 1969, Nzeribe’s prominence in Ghana waned.
In 1969, Arthur Nzeribe founded the Fanz Organization (based in London), engaging in arms trade, heavy construction, publishing, real estate investment, and oil brokerage. In Nigeria, he established Sentinel Assurance along with a variety of other businesses.
Arthur Nzeribe is happily married with children. His second wife is the sister of Hajia Asabe Yar’Adua, spouse of the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua.
