UN chief shocked, saddened by U.S. California mass shooting



Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, has conveyed his horror and sorrow regarding the mass shooting in Monterey Park, located in the U.S. state of California.

Stephane Dujarric, the principal spokesperson for the UN leader stated in a declaration.

Officials reported that five women and five men lost their lives while an additional 10 individuals sustained injuries during the mass shooting on Saturday night in the city of Monterey Park, situated 16 kilometers east of downtown Los Angeles, according to local authorities on Sunday.

The fatality count increased to 11 by Monday.

Guterres “offers his sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims, hoping for a swift recovery for those injured,” Dujarric stated.

The secretary-general also “shows solidarity with the Asian-American community in the United States,” the declaration further mentioned. (Xinhua/NAN)
