Turkey earthquake: Death toll passes 3,300



3,381 individuals have now been officially declared deceased in Turkey due to a catastrophic earthquake that occurred near the Turkish-Syrian frontier.

According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) of Turkey, over 20,000 individuals sustained injuries.

AFAD further reported that exceeding 5,700 structures were documented to have collapsed.

Orhan Tatar, chief of the earthquake and risk reduction division, stated that weather conditions in the area were extremely poor.

This encompassed significant snowfall, torrential rain, and powerful gusts in the impacted locales.

In some regions, temperatures hover around the freezing mark.

The immense earthquake, which registered at a magnitude of 7.7, hit southeastern Turkey in the border area with Syria early on Monday morning.

It was succeeded around noon by another tremor measuring 7.5 in magnitude.

AFAD reported there had been 285 aftershocks. (dpa/NAN)
