Forces of the Nigerian Army have eliminated a suspected militant and seized arms during an operation in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, the military reported.
This update was shared in a post on X on Saturday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who referenced security sources.
As per the report, troops from the 1 Brigade, functioning under Operation FANSAN YANMA, executed a targeted clearance operation on March 13 aimed at suspected militant encampments in Tubali and Zangon Danmaka.
“The mission was initiated based on reliable intelligence regarding the presence of armed bandits and other criminal factions using these locations as refuges,” Makama stated.
“During the operation at Tubali, troops confronted the suspected militants in a brief exchange of gunfire, compelling some to retreat into adjacent wooded areas. One suspected militant was eliminated, while others reportedly fled with potential gunshot wounds,” he added.
Security sources indicated that troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a motorcycle believed to be owned by the escaping suspects. The confiscated items were secured, and additional searches were performed to ensure the area was secured.
As troops moved to Zangon Danmaka, no engagement occurred, as the suspects were thought to have evacuated the area prior to the military’s arrival.
The military stated that troops continue to patrol and conduct reconnaissance in the vicinity to deter terrorists from regrouping and to uphold security in the region.
